Yaír André Cuenú-Mosquera

BA in Literature from Universidad del Valle, Colombia. PhD Candidate in Hispanic Studies at Texas A&M University, United States. Certificate in Afro-Latin American Studies from ALARI (Afro Latin American Research Institute). Creator of the creative writing workshop Meridiano de Barrio. Since 2021 he has been Graduate Assistant Teaching in the Department of Global Languages and Cultures – GLAC (Texas A&M University).

His research and creation profile focuses on literature originating in the African Diaspora whose themes involve processes of migration, transformation and empowerment of Afro-descendant communities. His creation provides a voice that has the Colombian Pacific as a place of enunciation, from where he narrates the human condition through stories that are woven between Black communities in rural and urban areas. His work has been published in Colombia, Spain, United States, Mexico, France and Portugal.

Among some of his publications are: “Bastardía” in De fuego y tiempo: El cuento Afrocolombiano contemporáneo. (Editorial Lugar Común) 2023, ‘Des traces sans pas: représentations littéraires de l’identité africaine dans les Amériques dans le poème “Sombra de mis mayores” dans Changó, el gran putas (1983) de Manuel Zapata Olivella’ in Afro-Amérique latine: diaspora, représentations et résistances identitaires dans les sociétés (post)coloniales. (Press Universitaries Indianoceaniques). He has also coined the term afrourbanita/afrourbanite.
