Innovation Postdoc: How to Apply

The Innovation Postdoc-in-Residence program welcomes all applicants, including international scholars from all disciplines at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Applicants who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:

  • Current NYU PhD candidates enrolled at the Tandon School of Engineering from NY, AD, or SH who have defended their dissertation from September 2024 or will successfully defend their dissertation by September 1, 2025
  • Candidates who desire to work in industry positions related to their area of expertise and are motivated to relocate to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in year two of the program

The selection process includes an interview phase where candidates discuss their research, entrepreneurial or R&D vision, interest in applying their work in real-world contexts, and motivation for relocating to Tulsa. Finalists should be prepared to travel to Tulsa between March 24–28 to experience the community and meet with potential employer hosts.

Selection Timeline

  • Application opens:  January 21, 2025
  • Application closes:  March 2, 2025 @ 11:59 pm ET
  • Applicant interviews:  March 612, 2025
  • Finalists travel to NYU Tulsa:  March 24–28, 2025
  • Selection notices:  end of April 2025

Application Requirements

Applicants should submit the following:

  • A resume or curriculum vitae
  • Candidate information form
  • Statement of the candidate’s vision for translating research to industry innovation
  • Personal statement outlining reasons for applying for this unique opportunity focusing on taking research from the lab to innovative industry solutions, interest in Tulsa’s booming economic ecosystem, and being an active member of the community
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A dissertation abstract (for postdoctoral applicants)

Applicants are strongly encouraged to comment on NYU departments, alliances, and initiatives where their innovation challenge may be rooted and identify potential mentors with relevant industry experience. Applicants can also mention or point towards specific industry innovators or businesses in Tulsa, such as those associated with the Tulsa Innovation Labs, Gradient, and those in the GKFF partner network (Tulsa Tech Hub), or others in the industry from whom they derive inspiration for participation in this program.
