Mellon Sawyer Seminar Postdoctoral Research Associate in Global Indigenous Studies at Brown University
Carlos Tello Barreda is a Mellon Sawyer Seminar Postdoctoral Research Associate in Global Indigenous Studies at Brown University. He holds a PhD in Native American Studies with a designated emphasis in Studies in Performance and Practice from the University of California, Davis. His scholarship focuses on the intersections of processes of ethnic and gender identity formation in the Andean region. It promotes hemispheric collaborations between scholars, students, and activists interested in Indigenous Studies. Since starting his doctoral research, Carlos has worked for/with the Qhapaq Qolla dance troupe of Paucartambo, Cusco, the protagonist of two of the most important public celebrations in the Peruvian Andes. Carlos is Peruvian and was born in Lima.
