Jonet Artis is a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of Maryland College Park. She earned a BA in Linguistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), an MEd in Communication Disorders at North Carolina Central University, and a PhD in Speech and Hearing Sciences at UNC. Before pursuing her doctorate, she practiced as a speech-language pathologist within a variety of settings. Her experiences as a speech-language pathologist motivated her to obtain her PhD. Jonet’s research interests include early identification of children at an elevated likelihood for autism and other developmental conditions, assessments that effectively describe the language development of children with developmental conditions, and disparities and differences in access to services. Her ultimate goal is for her research to be applicable to and implemented within a variety of communities, and thus help all children have access to quality healthcare services.
