Dr. Sulare Rose, PhD, CCC-SLP, is a South American Caribbean immigrant with a specialization insociolinguistics and communication sciences and disorders. Her unique background profoundly shapesher centering languages and cultures of origin among Caribbean, African American, and Latinocommunities. This grounding is not only beneficial to the named groups but also to the entire globe as itbecomes increasingly culturally and linguistically diverse.
Sulare’s research explores a pivotal question: How can technology support educators, includingmonolingual speech-language pathologists, in effectively serving multilingual children? Sheemphasizes that multilingual children perform best when instruction is in their native language,particularly in STEM.
Sulare is currently an associate professor of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of the Districtof Columbia in Washington DC and the Professional Development Manager for the Special InterestGroup 17, Global Issues in Communication Sciences and Related Disorders of the AmericanSpeech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
