Vanessa Anyanso

Vanessa Anyanso (she/her) is a doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She is a former a University of Minnesota Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellow and a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. She is an incoming Psychology Intern at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Clinical Fellow in Psychology at Harvard Medical School. She holds a bachelor’s in psychology from Columbia University. Broadly, her work uses qualitative and quantitative methods to examine the structural, societal, and individual level factors that affect the psychological well-being of Black and other marginalized populations. Clinically, Vanessa is passionate about providing culturally appropriate care to individuals holding marginalized identities and has worked in college counseling, community mental health, VA hospital, and private practice settings. She currently is a Member-At-Large for the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS). Above all, she is the proud daughter of Nigerian Immigrants and was born and raised in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. In her free time, she enjoys powerlifting, traveling, reading, writing, playing video games, watching women’s basketball, and spending time with family and friends.
