Maya Doig-Acuña is a writer, educator, and a PhD candidate in African & African American Studies at Harvard University. Her research interests include Black diaspora, family history, and migratory narratives in the Circum-Caribbean world. Their dissertation draws on Black feminist methods to examine Afro-Caribbean commemorative practice and everyday placemaking between 20th century Panama and New York City, with a particular focus on Black women’s memory-keeping. Her essay, “The Most Caribbean of Stories,” was selected as one of Southern Cultures Journal’s Top Ten of 2021.
