Kevin Barry

Kevin M. Barry is a PhD candidate in Sociology at Northwestern University. His current research focuses on (1) the roles of police and street violence in the lives of gang-involved young people and how this relates to feelings of physical/emotional safety and related outcomes, and (2) how the design of learning environments—namely community violence intervention (CVI) programs—can support gang-involved young people as they move toward holistic healing as well as their educational and occupational goals. This research is part of a larger research program that lies at the intersections of racial and environmental justice, Black liberation, and Indigenous sovereignty and their impacts on teachers and learners. Kevin has a MA in Sociology from Northwestern University, a MS in School Psychology from Tulane University, and a BS in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. Kevin is also a father of three with one on the way and an Army veteran who served as an Infantry Officer.
