Supporting faculty success at NYU Shanghai
Building on the success of the New York–based Early Career Faculty Institute, ECFI Shanghai offers a faculty development program tailored to the needs and priorities of NYU Shanghai pre-tenure faculty.
ECFI Shanghai provides opportunities for career advancement and community-building across multiple stages of the academic career, bringing faculty into conversation with colleagues, mentors and school and university leaders. Participants explore topics central to faculty success, including research, teaching, mentorship, leadership, service and career development.

PROGRAM GOALS
ECFI Shanghai helps faculty position themselves for success across the three central pillars of academic work on which they are assessed:
- Scholarship and research
- Teaching
- Service
Specifically, the program aims to:
- Expand faculty skills and provide support for professional success and advancement.
- Demystify the tenure and promotion processes.
- Help participants establish short- and long-term professional goals.
- Create networking opportunities with university leadership, schools, and faculty.
- Connect participants with university resources, CFA partners, and mentors.
- Strengthen collaboration and community across NYU Shanghai and the broader NYU global network.
The ECFI Shanghai Learning Experience
ECFI Shanghai is structured as a connected learning experience in two separate modalities. The first is an asynchronous component, followed by in-person sessions that solidify a network of peer mentors. Highlights are:
This structure allows the asynchronous and synchronous components to reinforce one another. The online modules establish a shared foundation, while the in-person workshops create space for application, discussion, feedback, and community building.
