Brian Boyce is a 2026–2027 African & African Diaspora Studies Dissertation Fellow at Boston College and a PhD Candidate in Geography at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he also earned a graduate certificate in Africana Studies. He received an MA in Cultural Studies from the University of Trinidad and Tobago. His work sits within the field of Black Performance Geographies. It examines how Black communities in New Orleans and Trinidad and Tobago use performance to create space and sustain collective life amid ongoing forms of disturbance. His broader research interests include Black geographies, performance studies, the African diaspora, Caribbean studies, race, urban transformation, and qualitative methodologies. His scholarship appears in Space and Culture, Environment and Planning D: Society and Space, and The Southeastern Geographer. Beyond his publications, Boyce curated the Caribbean Currents exhibition, recipient of the University of Tennessee’s Creative Discovery Award, and he is the recipient of the John Lewis Leadership Award. His research has been supported by the American Association of Geographers, Boston College, and the McClure Scholarship.
