CFA Staff Spotlight

Batoul Saleh

Batoul is the Curriculum & Internship Specialist for NYU's College & Career Lab.

My role in the CFA

As the curriculum and internship specialist at the College & Career Lab, I develop and deliver engaging hands-on learning experiences for our CCL students—on campus and through internship opportunities. I also provide instructional support to our undergraduate advisors, building their confidence and competence in the classroom, and I manage and expand the CCL internship program.

Proudest recent accomplishment at work

The 11th and 12th grade lessons from the last two CCL Practice Labs we hosted went really well. A lot of factors go into the design and delivery of a lesson plan, so when it lands well and we have evidence that shows the sessions were successful, it’s encouraging!

Proudest recent accomplishment outside work

I’m most proud that I’m becoming an avid spin class go-er and enjoy-er, and that I’m on my way to completing my MA in American History. And in that order!

The students are what make this job not so corporate-office-coded for me—I appreciate that aspect of my work

Most enjoyable thing about my work

The most enjoyable aspect of my work is when I’ll just be going about my day and will get a spark of an idea for a lesson, and I pull out my dry erase markers, find the nearest white board, and plan it out. That’s when I’m most in my element and in a flow state. I also love when we get to see the students during Practice Labs. The students are what make this job not so corporate-office-coded for me—I appreciate that aspect of my work.

Something that might surprise people about my work

This may not be surprising to other people, but it was certainly a surprise to me when I started this job that I need to send out well over 100 emails a week.

Someone who inspires me professionally

From my first onboarding conversation with CCL program director Autumn Bush, I was so impressed by her professionalism, efficiency, and ability to cut through corporate noise and jargon and get to the nuts and bolts of the work.

What I’d do if I could go back in time and choose a different career

I have wanted to be a writer since I was 13, and I love and am grateful for the ways that my life brought me to where I can now practice—and profit—from writing, in all forms—from curriculum writing to kids media writing to TV writing.

Anderly Burgos

CCL Lead Advisor

In the short time I have worked with Batoul, she has helped me realize more creative and meaningful ways of hosting conversations that students truly care about. Her pedagogy responds to the students’ needs; her lessons have turned our class from a place of repetition to a space where students share what they need and see it being implemented. I see the way Batoul’s eyes light up when she’s around students, and how well the students react to her, which makes me excited for my own future as an educator.
