Jonet Artis is a PhD candidate in the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics at UNC and a Master of Education in Communication Disorders at North Carolina Central University. Before pursuing her doctorate, she practiced as a speech-language pathologist within a variety of settings. Her experiences as a speech-language pathologist motivated her to obtain her PhD Jonet’s research interests include early identification of children at an elevated likelihood for autism, and other developmental disorders and interventions focused on the language development of young children. Her ultimate goal is for her research to be applicable to and implemented within a variety of communities, and thus help all children have access to quality healthcare services. She is the recipient of a graduate research grant from the Organization of Autism Research and also the James J. Gallagher Dissertation Research Award.
