Bianca N. Haro, PhD, a feminista-educator-activist, is a first-generation college graduate and daughter of immigrant parents from Guadalajara, Jalisco. Currently, she is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology at Pitzer College. Her research examines the factors that push Latina students out of school. Her commitment to research is paired with a dedication to organizing with Communities of Color. She is currently collaborating with Gente Organizada, a predominantly Latinx community-led nonprofit organization, based in Pomona, CA, that focuses on educational, economic, and social justice. In partnership with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Bianca is supporting the analysis of Pomona Police Department’s arrest data recorded between 2016 and 2020 and leading the publication of a report titled Pomona Police Department’s Crusade Against Black and Latinx Youth, which will be released in March of 2021. Bianca’s research agenda is a life-long commitment to centering the voices of youth who are often overlooked in research, policy, practice, and social justice efforts.
