Maurice Shirley is a PhD candidate studying Higher and Postsecondary Education at New York University. His research interests include college access and equity, college completion, and the student experience of underrepresented student populations. Maurice’s dissertation investigates the effects of student employment on college completion by race and institutional selectivity. Prior to pursuing his doctorate, he worked in the postsecondary education sector primarily focusing on student engagement, leadership, diversity initiatives, academic advising, and admissions. Maurice earned a Master’s in Higher Education and Student Personnel Administration from New York University and a Bachelor’s in English, Pre-Education from The Ohio State University.
